What to do on your victorian holiday
With restrictions lifting and travel into regional Victoria finally being encouraged, it’s finally time to go on that adventure into the sprawling and beautiful countryside! Daylesford is a perfect little ‘tourist trap’ town with dozens of little hidden wonders, and scenic spots for the dedicated hiker.
They’re also a town that relies on income from tourists, which for obvious reasons they’ve had to do without through most of this year. Check out this perfect holiday spot in Victoria whether you’re from the state or not and add these local businesses to your bucket list when you do!
After the stress of the year there is no better way to relax than with a drink in one hand and a book in the other.
Located in a beautiful old brick and mortar building and spans a sprawling fourteen rooms across two floors, Paradise Bookshop is the perfect place to do just that and Trefor, the store owner for the last 30 years, has your bibliophilic relaxation covered. We’ve heard from a few Victorians that their trip down south wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the store, so make sure you see what all the fuss is about!
Speaking of drinks… After so many months of restrictions, we’re all desperate for a drink (or several!) that someone else, who isn’t related to us, has served up. There’s no shortage of good places for a tipple in Daylesford, but you’ve got to make a quick stop at this apple-scented oasis.
Set on a breathtakingly picturesque orchard, Clare and the team at Daylesford Cider produce a range of craft ciders, all brewed locally using 17 varieties of organic, heritage-listed cider apples. Before you indulge, make sure to go on one of their guided tours of the orchard, and after you’ve tasted their selections head down to their cellar door for lunch and give your tastebuds a well-deserved treat.
Hilltop Kennels and Cattery
After so many months locked away with them, our four-legged friends won’t be happy to be ditched on our adventures. While you might want to bring them with you, it may not be feasible to take them everywhere on your trip.
So take them for a little pet-cation of their own, to have your pets pampered by Mick, Lisa and their squad at Hilltop. The family-owned business have a lifelong passion for animal care, and looking after pets while their humans are getting into trouble is an absolute pleasure.
No one knows Daylesford better than its locals – which is why Ant and Sam founded Discover Daylesford, to help tourists get the 411 on everything fun in Daylesford.
Using the service is an easy first step, or one-stop-shop to plan your weekend down in regional Victoria. Even better, if you’re keen to take in the scenery, Ant and Sam have you covered. They’ve got a range of insanely stunning and sustainable properties integrated into the countryside so you can take in the scenery while you’re relaxing in luxury.
We could go on about the cool businesses to visit – whether you’re looking for some cool herbal drinks, a fabulous and ‘grammable local winery, or an ‘all things green’ store. Daylesford really does have something for everyone, so take the whole family and get out there to enjoy yourselves, and support local, small businesses who need it right now.
Remember you’re also eligible for a $200 voucher in Victoria for spending locally right now, and remember to tag the businesses and @golocalfirst on Insta to help spread the word on just how cool they are to other Aussies.
