Vikram opened one of Sydney’s first Indian grocery stores all the way back in 1984 after noticing that Sydney’s fast-growing Indian emigres couldn’t find their pantry staples.
Over the last three decades, MGM Spices has grown rapidly, and is now proud to source Australian-grown grains and health foods to customers from all walks of life.
When the pandemic hit, Vikram was kept busy making sure the store had enough stock to provide essential items to his community. He imposed stock limits and proactively sourced his best-selling products to limit logistical delays.
Vikram and his team have a loyal customer base, who were deeply understanding of the restrictions and changes to trading. He credits them for being so helpful throughout the lockdown period. Vikram says they’ve reminded him just how important his community is to him, through these trying times.
Vikram is doing his best to ensure customers adhere to social distancing guidelines, by being in-store as much as he can be. MGM have also provided free hand sanitiser to help individuals, while regularly cleaning the store to ensure their customers’ safety.
Vikram is looking forward to continue supporting his local community radio station, Voice of India Monika Geetmala, while maintaining his support for small businesses around him.
