Romeo, Owner, Hone Café

Romeo’s Hone Café did so well in Gerringong, they opened up another in Balgownie. They’ve traditionally enjoyed regular trade from locals, but have been flat out during the crisis, by offering healthy meals for families to enjoy together.

Romeo’s Juliet (actually named Kristy) handles all their paperwork, while he handles the cooking. He’s had an interesting path to becoming a business owner, having previously left his job as a mining engineer when his father became ill.

Although they are actively involved in community activities – with the Taipans soccer club and the Surf Club in Gerringong, as well helping the local Rotary by putting on meals for their fundraisers, the bike ride he and his staff took part in together last year is the closest to his heart.

In honour of his father, they raised $5,000 for patients in Wollongong Hospital’s cancer ward, and are hoping to double the amount this year.
